In a game of streaks, Cardinal had the last streak and the most points in a cold, wet affair with a tough Purple team, winning 17-12. The game started quite late as Cardinal waited patiently for more Purple players to arrive at the game. After calling Purple's captains on a cell phone to encourage them to leave their warm homes and come to the fields, the game began with Cardinal loaning Purple one of their 4 women so they would have one. Cardinal started fast and quickly took a 7-1 lead before Purple's Captains, Rik Dugan and Brian Lang, and some Purple women arrived. Buoyed by the arrival of their Captains, Purple woke up and stormed back in the game and the half ended with Cardinal up only 9-7. As the light rain started to intensify at the half, so did Purple. Using deep hucks, Purple took the lead at 10-9. At this point, Cardinal, with more subs, seemed to find some extra energy. Playing great defense and smarter offense, Cardinal then reeled off 6 straight points to take a 15-10 lead. The two teams then traded points with Cardinal scoring the final goal on a long pass to Heidi Porter who made an outstanding vertical leap and one handed catch. Kudos to all on both teams who came out in the miserable weather. Heidi Porter was definitely Team MVP for the Cardinal, making great catches and throws throughout the game. Outstanding Defense was played by the Cardinal's Dennis Nield, Safa Hamze, Pat McNally, and Matt Burleson. Special Thanks to Cardinal's Mila Oh who volunteered to play for Team Purple for most of the first half.
