Team Cardinal, dressed in the latest fall fashions, faced a powerful and worthy opponent, Team Sun. It was a long, grueling match, which Cardinal eventually took 17-13. We knew from the git-go that it would be a tough one, as Sun scored first and we subsequently traded scores through most of the first half. As it was a bit blustery today, Sun slapped a zone on us. We did a pretty good job of punching through it, but we had a nasty habit of turning it over deep in their territory and then failing to catch up on turnover D. We had 'em at 8-6, but the accursed Sun scored 4 unanswered. Cardinal was sad. But someone (perhaps one of our many fans) kept shouting something that sounded like "yeah crabstick!" We naturally had no idea what this meant, but it somehow inspired us to answer Sun's scores. Soon it was tied with more scores a-traded. As we fought back, eventually taking a 16-13 lead, tempers began to fray just a wee bit. One Sun player attempted to persuade us that, because he was able to identify the sideline, his player who had landed 2 feet out of bounds should somehow be counted in. Crafty Cardinal knew not to fall for this! Joe hucked it and we won. And we also learned a lot of valuable lessons today. Lesson 1: Safa will go to the hammer, early and often. Lesson 2: Heidi might not use two hands all the time but she catches it when it counts (in the end zone). Lesson 3: Anne and Roger need to be less wussy with foul calls. Lesson 4: Ken and Mila had to leave early. Lesson 5: Chip probably has brain damage after that hit, but he is a stud! Lesson 6: Harlan sometimes uses his powers of invisibility to get open in the end zone. Lesson 7: Cardinal will never let me file a report again.
Re: Lesson #7 (see above) While I, and I'm sure the rest of team Cardinal, appreciate Jason's diligence in reporting on the game we will have to have a team meeting this Saturday to discuss his game report. It seems that his brilliance so blinded the great TFDA webmaster that the score got reversed. Sun was a worthy opponent, but Cardinal did come away with the win, 17-13.
