this excellent contest went down to the wire. the orange team squelched a steel run to take the first half by a couple points. the game was tied and the lead changed hands several times during the second half. and then the orange crushed. steel benefited from chris shepard's precise handling and picturesque leaping catches in traffic, steve frame's quarterbacking and good long throws that often hit their targets, baker pratt's downfield defense and deep cuts, john trexler's consistent continuation cuts, hart matthews' zipping all over the field on offense and defense, dave sims' good handling and solid forehand throws, and tom herndon's great cuts spurred on by his yellow hot chili pepper socks. steel highlights were tom leaping and spinning around to catch a long throw from beth cates for a score, and several points where steel worked it all the way downfield by making the simple throws and involving everybody on the field. steve frame made an especially nice long arcing throw to beth for a score (on one point the day before steve made a block, made a good cut, and then launched a similar throw for a score). kristin white was a split second away from a great defensive block when an orange player took it away with a great catch (during our saturday game, kristin caught the winning score in lots of traffic in similar fashion). one of the keys to orange's success today was that they caught most of the floating discs and connected on many of their long throws, especially after they broke steel's force. hats off to tj and his charges, for running hard and connecting like clockwork.
