one long point

This sunday was a perfect day for ultimate - clear, mild and relatively windless. True to form thus far, Charcoal came out strong and lead early. Ash wanted a fun game and wouldn't have any more of that. In fact, w/ hucks from X Schwoerkel and Mark Parris they took half 9-7. Charcoal got their heads together and made a strong second half showing to pull ahead 13-11. Jon Walter made a great layout catch and was tough on downfield, mano a mano D. Then came the longest ultimate point I've ever seen. It seemed like it lasted a half hour. As the point worn on, players' exhaustion showed as they couldn't corral otherwise sure catches. It finally ended w/ Charcoal taking the point. Ash did a great job w/ far fewer subs, but the fresh Charcoal troops closed the deal. Paul Mullin threw a double helix hammer meant for Amy Seagroves, and it retraced back to my hands for the win. Thanks to Lissa Gotwals for filling in to give us two women. Another good spirited and fun WL game.
