steel won this sunday brunch game on a day that warmed up fast, 1/28/01. hart matthews favored us with james brown sounds. steve frame bounced out of his hat to get us fired up with some spirited cheers. beth cates hit long throws to downfield receivers and several short throws for scores in an end zone offense that was smoother than it has been in some of steel's recent games. wes hunt, ken sumner, hart matthews, chris shephard, and liz conradt all got their paws up to intercept or knock away natural passes that would have been scores, and martha pentecost had some more blocks today. lauren rothwell has really stepped up as a steel middle, and ross bryan orchestrated a nice series of give-and-go throws at game point and made a gamewinning pass to liz through the middle of the defense. steve frame is one of the main steel quarterbacks, and his handling helped lots. it seemed like john trexler was always open, setting up his cuts nicely with lots of movement before cutting for the disc. i have to hand it to natural for playing very well, given that they had one sub the whole game. i especially remember natural's wendy and john making lots of memorable layout bids on o and d, and natural's beth and greg running awfully hard to help their offense move down the field. wes hunt guzzled the worm after the game. shepard steel was pumped this weekend and kept us moving smoothly and confidently.
