steel won their game against ash on a gusty but bright and sunny saturday afternoon, 1/27/01. steel's defensive heroes were baker pratt and martha pentecost. steel's offensive highlights included the hammer connection between southpaw thrower wes hunt and the versatile steve frame. team steel scored the first several points, making it 4-0. ash regrouped and calmly clawed their way back, eventually making the score 5-4. steel's defense made it hard for ash to find good throws after that point and forced this issue by getting ash to high stall counts on several occasions. ash's dan parrish had one of the highlight plays in this game with his diving block in the corner of the end zone of a throw that would otherwise have been caught for a steel score. what might account for the steel success this afternoon? was it the sweet worms that rewarded good plays? the candy and the brewed beverages waiting on the sideline helped. but it was mainly just that steel got some good chemistry today.
