Denim wins a hard fought game...once they deposed Attride-weight

Submitted by: daran denim on 2/5/2001 at 11:14:15 AM

The weather was much nicer than anticipated and the 10 o'clock start did not keep 20 players (combined) for both teams to show up by 10:30am. After seeing Forrest Green's measly numbers I felt less like a jackass captain whose team has quit showing up--it's happening to everybody! Shew! Upon cursory inspection of both teams I figured our biggest problem winning this game would be guarding against overconfidence, as Denim had more of their draft picks than FG. But our biggest problem was throwing 7 of 10 discs out of the endzone while in the redzone. We just zoned out and sorta sucked the first half and FG played well--took half 9-6. FG continued using their successful short passing game (with many dump swings) and an occasional huck to Carl Erikson (3:16) and Drew(?) in the second half. What FG didn't realize is when Roy has to leave a game early (or, better yet, can't make it) Denim always wins...always. Denim caught FG at 12 all. FG stayed one point ahead 13-12, then 14-13, before the game was capped at 16. Denim finally executed the defensive plays (layout Ds) that we were *wishing* for the whole game. Wayne Kobylinski made the final layout D that resulted in Denim's 14-16 victory. In another development, Roy Attride was placed on waivers Monday morning as the TFDA offices opened. (We kid our guy Roy.)
