Ahhhhh, could there be a better rivalry? Sage vs light steel. Not because the teams are evenly matched ( even though if we could catch the disc it would have been closer), but because the two teams have brothers playing against eachother Baker and Ian Pratt. The older of the two Baker has an incredible height advantage over most people. He is at least 6'4 dwarfing Ian at a measly 6'1. If you where standing on the sidelines you could see that even though both parents had arrived with Ian they where split in cheering. The father wore Sage green and the mother wore Steel blue. The little battle ended up being a huge war. Baker opened up the game with about 4 of Steels first ummmm 4 points. He was looking un stoppable. This battle of brothers was looking one sided. Finally Sage got on the board and caught back up. The half was takin bye Steel at 9-8. The game ended up being 17-13. Even though this battle of brothers was one sided (Baker had about 8 points Ian had ummmm 1) the game was fun for most (never fun losing to a brother). I personally hope to see this group of guys and girls in the tournament. Sorry about the length i got carried away. Ian Sage
it was a splendid afternoon. and this was a well played game. steel had the connection between steve frame and wes hunt going again. beth cates made an excellent catch on a long throw during one of our points before throwing one of her several hammers for a score. another pretty steel play was ken sumner breaking the force to beth down the line then a long throw from beth to dave sims who made a great catch in the end zone. hart matthews did not touch the disc much on offense but his cuts created open space for other steel folks. john trexler set up his cuts in this kind of space very nicely all day and after one catch spun around to fire an excellent long backhand to chris shephard, whose quarterbacking for his short pass to hustling chris leblanc for the score on that point and on many other patient offensive drives was key to the steel success on saturday. baker pratt took his game to another level, making several leaping catches on the fly and getting several defensive blocks. his parents were on hand to watch baker's steel battle brother ian's sage. john stephens had his hammer going and hit baker for a score in the corner of the end zone on a point early in the game. lisa carter wins steel's socks award for the weekend and helped our dump-and-swing action at the goal line time and again. martha pentecost caught several passes in our offensive flow including one highlight grab right out of the clutches of several of sage's defenders. steel's ross bryan stepped up to orchestrate some nice middle offense today. steel's ken sumner made some fantastic diving catches that looked like they were dying until his surehanded gloves got there. for sage, graham and patterson seaton ran awfully well, and graham made an absolutely fantastic layout catch during one of the early points in the game. tim brooks had his arcing throws to his receivers in open space going for him today, and thuy boyd made things difficult for the steel defense. sage tallboys george and axon were tough to cover as well, and dan point blocked one of the steel throwers. sage put together a run of points in the middle of the first half, but then steel made a comeback to take half and came out strong in the early part of the second half. tom herndon dug deep for the postgame schlitz. both teams deserve some of that for good effort and good spirited ultimate this past weekend.
