The Quest for the Loretta Cup 2003

Regular Season Final Standings

Determining the final standings starts with examining win-loss records. Ties are settled in the following order:

  • Head-to-head
  • Point differentials among common games
  • Point differentials for the season
  • Conference call coin toss.

Notes about the regular season ranking:

  • The game between C and E to determine the #2 UPPER team never happened, so point differential was the tie-breaker (Team C +36, Team E +12).
  • H defeated B 17-16 on Feb 5th giving them the #4 UPPER team.
  • Point differential among common games determined UPPER teams 6, 7, 8 and lower teams 6 thru 11.

Pool Play Guidelines

  • All games are to first to 11.
  • 20-yard brick.
  • 1 time out per half.

Time cap is sounded 10 minutes before the next round. Time cap will be in effect even in the final round, to ensure all games are played similarly. Imposing the time cap will immediately re-set the game to "high score + 1". If the point is in progress, the time cap will go on at the point's completion. [Clarification: if teams are on the line waiting for the pull and the horn goes off, the score is capped then and there, not *after* that point is over.] Mercy rule: if a team is behind by 4 or more points when the time cap is imposed, the game is over.

The tourney continues our regular season coed play: use a 5/2 ratio, with no more than 5 men at any time. If for some reason teams are having problems with numbers of women *before* the tourney, contact Garrett Dyer (GarrettDyer@nc.rr.com).

Players not on a team may not play during this tourney, ie, no guest or pickup players unless cleared prior to the tournament by the WL Director. Use of un-registered players will result in forfeitures.

End-of-Day Standings

Finish in a pool is determined first by win-loss record. Ties are handled in the following order:

  • Head-to-head
  • Point differentials among common games
  • Point differentials for all pool play
  • Conference call coin toss.

The following teams have made it to the Championship Bracket:
Pool A: F (Pat Inman & MaryMolly Taylor) & B (Becki Cleveland & Marc Kessler)
Pool B: W (Missy Summerville & Mick Ribault) & Z (Mel & Jon Proctor)
Pool C: C (Frannie Goodrich & Jeff Faulkner) & R (Kenny Dobyns)
Pool D: S (Tom Lyndes) & E (Joe Slater)

Click here for detailed results of Pools A and C.

Here are the results for Pool B, like Christian said, very windy lots of turnovers, lots of zone, fun at times, frustrating at times... etc.

Pool B Finals       Seed   Win/Loss
W-Missy&Mick         3       5-0
Z-Mel&Jon            1       4-1

Here are the results for Pool D: Teams S (Tom Lyndes) and E (Joe Slater) advanced to the Championship bracket. Tom's team went 4-1, losing their last game with the #1 seed already secured.

Team E won based on common-game point differential in a 3-way tie with Team T (Tim & Thuy Brooks) and A (Clay Herget). It came down to the last game, a great one between Team E and Team X (Victor Manielly). Whichever team won stood a good chance to win the 2nd seed, and Team E did just that pulling out the victory in a close game 11-9. Team J (Jenn Coon & Jess Lanford) had a rough patch after losing a very close first game against Team X.

Results:
S 4-1
E 3-2
T 3-2
A 3-2
X 2-3
J 0-5

Championship Bracket Play

The top 2 teams from each pool advance to championship play.

Pre-pool seeding still stands, in that A1 is ranked higher than B1, which is in turn higher than C1, etc. [Note that if seeds hold, semis have matchups with 1v3 and 2v4. This is done to avoid upsets setting up re-matches of teams who'd played one another in pool play. If there *are* re-matches, they will occur only in the finals.]

Championship Play Guidelines

Quarters and Semis are to 15, win by 2, with a hard cap of 17. Finals are to 17, win by 2, no cap. 2 time outs per half. 20-yard brick.

Time caps will be imposed 15 minutes before the next round in all quarters and semis games. No caps will be imposed on the Loretta Cup Final.

Imposing the time cap will immediately re-set the game to "high score + 2", hard cap (ie, no win-by-2). If the point is in progress, the time cap will go on at the point's completion. [Clarification: if teams are on the line waiting for the pull and the horn goes off, the score is capped then and there, not _after_ that point is over.] No time outs will be in available when the time cap is imposed.
